HSI Notification of Major Projects
Regulation 9 of the 2016 Regulations sets out the information that is legally required to be notified to HSI by the Health and Safety Project Coordinator. There is a requirement to raise the notification as soon as the project is considered as a notifiable project which may be well before a Principal Contractor or the full design team members have been appointed. Details can be added to the notification as this information becomes known and the works start date, works duration and subcontractors are further resolved.
In the absence of a notification being registered before the works commence can lead to the HSI placing a project on hold until it can be demonstrated that adequate health and safety protection measures and controls are in place and that the management of potential and identified health and safety risks have been assessed and suitably mitigated before allowing the works to proceed again. By dealing with such matters in advance of the project start date and even before design submissions are approved or used for tender enquiries, this will best avoid any potential oversights in health and safety management, control and safe execution.
